This conference aims to put forward historic moments and
critical junctures that Judaism and Israel have passed during the historical
process and by doing so creating a discussion platform on which the currents
effects of those junctures and moments on Israel and Judaism would be
scrutinized. The program will include the traditional fields of Judaism studies

‘West’”, Singapore, 16-17 January 2020
This workshop is interested to move studies of race and
migration away from (skin) colour as well as the ‘West’. It suggests that a
more nuanced understanding of the global, context-specific processes of
racialization and new racisms can be gained by treating the dominant ‘Western’
experiences of racialization and racism as reference points rather than paradigms.

"Transottomanica: Eastern European-Ottoman-Persian Mobility Dynamics"
for 2020-2023
The program will focus on the "Transottoman" ties
and communication practices which emerged as a consequence of mobility between
these dominions between the 16th and the 19th centuries
and which have not previously become visible in studies of individual regions
or bilateral relations. Non-German nationals can apply, but need an affiliation
with a university or research institution in Germany.
