Cultural Diplomacy for Students in the Berlin Global Voluntary Internship
Project
These
internships will enable students to engage in cultural diplomacy and in doing
so, to further promote cultural diplomacy and multiculturalism worldwide. The
internship is open to currently enrolled students who need this internship as a
compulsory component of their academic studies or participants of the ERASMUS
program. The voluntary internships are full time, unpaid, last 2-3 months.

On average each program comprises of 100 formal contact hours per month.
Classes meet for five teaching hours per day, five days a week, a total of 25

combine lectures and many field trips to monuments and museums in and around

The summer school will provide participants with skills and theoretical

efforts towards sustainable development and recuperation of urban space in the

Cambridge University Library, 23-27 September 2019
This course will
introduce the study of Islamic manuscript codices as physical objects, or the
archaeology of the Islamic book. The lectures will provide an overview of
writing supports, the structure of quires, ruling and page layout, bookbinding,
ornamentation, tools and materials used in book making, the palaeography of book
hands, and writing Text Encoding Initiative manuscript descriptions. During
hands-on sessions, participants will examine Islamic manuscripts from the
Library's collections and complete a series of practical exercises on
codicological description.

paintings from the Islamicate world. They represent the cultural heritage of
Muslim lands from 1000 to 1900, covering mathematics, astrology, history, law,

manuscripts in Arabic and Persian, Coptic, Samaritan, Syriac, Turkish, and
Berber. The primary partners are Columbia University, the Free Library of
Philadelphia, and the University of Pennsylvania.
