5. Thematic Session on “Empires and the Environment in the Modern Middle East”, ESEH Conference, Zagreb, 28 June – 2 July 2017

Organizers: Annelies Moors Amsterdam Institute for Social Science Research. Yafa Shanneik, University of South-Wales. The aim of the workshop is to gain insight in how and to what extent various strands of Shia Islam – be it in terms of doctrine and religious authority, legal and ethical practices, rituals and everyday life – affect debates about marriages and the ways in which they are concluded.
