Dear Sirs,
On behalf of the organizers of the II INTERNATIONAL SYMPOSIUM ON „POLITICS AND SOCIETY IN THE ISLAMIC WORLD”, the Arabic Language and Culture Centre, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun, the Department of Middle East and North Africa, University of Łodz, and the Department of European Islam of Warsaw University, I would like to invite you to take part in our Conference that will take place on 20-21 October 2016 in Torun (Poland).
The symposium is the second edition of the annual meeting of academics who are interested in the problems of political and social issues of the Muslim world in the 20th and 21st century, from Morocco to South-East Asia, including also the Muslims in the diaspora. We look forward to all specialists of political, social and oriental studies, politologists, sociologists, orientalists, islamologists and other experts on Islamic world politics and society. As well as those, whose research topics relate to issues of social relations, domestic policy of states inhabited by Muslims in addition to foreign policy and international relations in the Muslim world. In the 21st century, especially after the so-called „Arab Spring”, a change of some paradigms regarding issues fundamental to the development of the world where Muslims or those who rely on Islam play a crucial role is widely visible. It can be both an edifying and destructive force. These problems are exposed with various viewpoints, using a variety of methodologies and national perspectives. We hope our conference will be a good occasion to discover some of these perspectives, to show new trends and subjects present in the discourse on politics and society in the islamic world.
We would be very pleased to get a chance to host you in Torun, the city with long academic tradition, the city where Nicoulaus Copernicus was born and lived for many years. The conference will be held in the building of Faculty of Languages (Collegium Maius, Fosa Staromiejska Street 3), which is situated in the old city center – the Medieval town of Torun that was listed among UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage sites.
The conference fee includes proceedings and meals - coffee breaks, lunches and the banquet - after the first day of the conference, there will be an interactive session at the Museum of Gingerbread (program in English) and 2-hour tour through the Old Town "Get Gothic" (with an English-speaking guide). For your convenience, we can assist you in booking a room in a hotel in the old town just a few steps from conference venue, so you could enjoy a walk through picturesque streets of our city.
We would also appreciate it if you would forward this information to your colleagues and others potentially interested in this conference.
