Papers will approach various subjects from the perspectives of textual history, art
history and archeology, and will look at cultural, social, environmental, religious,
political, economic and military history. Participants are from Germany, France, UK,
Japan, USA, Egypt and Israel, and include senior and junior scholars.

3. Conference: “The State of Iraq and Iraqi Studies since Regime Change”, American
University in Cairo, 5-7 November 2015
 
The conference will examine, analyze and evaluate the state of Iraq and Iraqi
studies at the contemporary historical moment.  Participants should present
scholarly research on current conditions within and around the academic study of
Iraq, focusing on areas as diverse as political science, economics, history,
sociology, anthropology, education, film/media/communications and cultural studies.

4. Conference: "A Comparative Approach towards Political Transition in the Middle
East / North Africa and Southeast Asia", Faculty of International Affairs,
University of Le Havre, 19-20 November 2015
 
The conference will explore why political transition in Southeast Asia has been
relatively successful while transition in the Middle East / North Africa is proving
to be messy, volatile, and bloody. French and English will be the working languages
of the conference. The organizers will provide accommodation and meals.

5.  Conference: “China in the Middle East: Neoliberalism with Chinese
Characteristics and Political Transformations in the Middle East”, Qatar University,
Doha, 23-24 March 2016
 
In our conference, we will examine social, political and economic relations between
China and Middle Eastern states and societies in the context of the neoliberal
economy. The conference proceedings will also be published in the Sociology of Islam
Journal.

6. Turkologentag: "Second European Convention on Turkic, Ottoman and Turkish
Studies", University of Hamburg, 14-17 September 2016 
 
Humanities, social sciences and regional studies from early Turkic tribes to
contemporary Turkey, from linguistics to religious studies and from Siberia to
Hamburg. With 12 sections and more than 30 Academic Board Members this conference
will be the largest event of its kind.

7. Research Assistant at the Center for Middle Eastern and North African Politics,
FU Berlin  
 
This is a 65%-part-time job limited to 30.06.2019. The position analyses the
affective dynamics which surrounded the Tahrir and Gezi-Park protests. Requirements:
B.A. and M.A. in Social Sciences/Middle Eastern Studies. Desirable: Previous
experience with fieldwork in Egypt and excellent Arabic and English language
competencies, preferably native speaker in Arabic.

8. Associate Professorship in Cross-Cultural Studies, Faculty of Humanities,
University of Copenhagen
 
The position is offered with special emphasis on modern Iran and Central Asia and is
to be filled by 1 February 2016 or as soon as possible thereafter. The successful
applicant must be capable of undertaking research, teaching, supervision,
communication and administration in relation to the subject, and, when necessary,
provide academic input in other study programs. Requirements: proficiency in modern
Persian, research and teaching qualifications.

IIIT invites applications for short-term research grants (up to $ 3,000) for
Summer/Fall 2015. These grants are meant to support research and writing by
individual scholars. Grants could include funding for travel, research support,

10. Two PhD Research Fellowships in Contemporary Middle East Studies, University of
Oslo
 
The appointment is for the duration of three years. The applicants are required to
address issues related to political and/or religious authority in the Middle East,
from a macro or micro perspective. Requirements: A Master's Degree or equivalent in
Middle East studies, or in social sciences or humanities, with the precondition that
the master thesis has an explicit Middle East specialization.
