1. Conference: "Contending Religions, Identities and Space - Living together in
contemporary Africa and Europe", The University of Macerata, 12-13 November 2015
 
This conference aims to discuss the multifaceted dimension that religious discourses
are assuming in both contemporary Africa and Europe. It will question the
effectiveness of conventional understanding of religions in the political debate and
in the media, trying to deconstruct what seems  an essentialised understanding of
religions and thus to shed light on the many theological, social and existential
nuances that underpin contemporary religious narratives.

 Workshop: "Cultures of Diversity: Arts and Cultural Life in Arab Societies before
Independence", University of Edinburgh, 3-4 December 2015
 
This workshop will focus on the diverse sources of artistic and cultural practice in
the modern Arab world by examining the interplay between diverse local traditions
and non-indigenous elements. Contributions are welcome from social and cultural
historians, scholars of popular culture, the fine arts, the performing arts, the
history of science, cultural and diaspora studies.

3. Ninth SOAS Conference on the Qui`an: "The Qur'an: Text, Society and Culture",
University of London, 11-13 February 2016

The conference series seeks to provide a forum for investigating the basic question:
how is the Qur'anic text read and interpreted? Our objective is to encompass a
global vision of current research trends. Papers may be presented in English or
Arabic.

"Insatiable Appetite: Food as a Cultural Signifier", American University of Beirut,
12-14 May 2016  
 
This conference aims at exploring the cultural as well as scientific ramifications
of food and foodways in Europe and the Mediterranean in a longue durée and
interdisciplinary perspective. We accept abstracts from the humanities, social
sciences, medicine, and natural sciences related to Europe and the Middle East.
