Résumé

Ce colloque s’attachera à questionner les ressorts des mobilisations politiques qui s’inscrivent dans un « lieu », dont il est, tout à la fois, le support, le mobile et le principal enjeu – l’hypothèse générale soumise à la discussion étant que l’espace, en tant que construit social, n’est pas simplement un arrière-fond contextuel des luttes, mais participe pleinement de la dynamique constitutive des mobilisations, autant qu’il se constitue à travers elles. Un privilège sera accordé aux luttes qui naissent d’un hiatus entre les prétentions des pouvoirs publics ou du secteur marchand à maîtriser la destinée d’un espace et les revendications de ses habitants, usagers ou défenseurs.

Cette rencontre se propose de penser les enjeux sociaux, religieux et culturels des transformations de la famille, des rapports de genre, et de comprendre comment dans ce contexte de changement se pensent la transmission des identités juives et la continuité du judaïsme dans toutes ses dimensions. 

Axes thématiques

Quatre thématiques seront privilégiées :

- Les recompositions des rapports de genre dans les mondes juifs contemporains

- Les avancées de la science en matière de reproduction et leur réception (discours, décisions, pratiques, éthique)

- Les transformations de la famille et la pluralisation des modèles familiaux

- La transmission comme enjeu de continuité du judaïsme

Modalités pratiques d'envoi des propositions

Religion and the Political Participation and Mobilization of Immigrant Groups: A Transatlantic Perspective

The Centre for Ethnic and Migration Studies (CEDEM) of the University of Liège is pleased to announce the third scientific thematic workshop organized by the working group Citizenship and Political Participation on “Religion and the Political Participation and Mobilization of Immigrant Groups: A Transatlantic Perspective”. It will take place on 11 May 2015 at the University of Liège Belgium.
The topics:

• Electoral behavior of Muslim, Christian, Buddhist, etc. citizens with an immigrant background
• Political mobilization through churches, mosques and religious associations
• Immigrants and organized secularism
• Music, religion and political mobilization of second and third generations
• Immigrants and anti-religious discrimination
• Trans-religious alliances among immigrants

Guidelines submission

The intention is to prepare a special issue of a journal including a selection of the papers presented at the workshop. Those interested are asked to send a one-page presentation of their paper to Marco Martiniello by February 8^th 2015 : mail to:  M.Martiniello@ulg.ac.be.

From the Caucasus to the Arabian Peninsula: studying domestic spaces in the Neolithic

Under neolithisation scholars understand multiple processes of social and economic transformation which begin at different times and follow regional trends in the Near and Middle East. It is within the complex relational and spatial framework of the household that these shifts in the structure and activities of Neolithic communities are easiest to apprehend and study. The conference will therefore focus on the domestic sphere in order to highlight and understand the polymorphous nature of what we call neolithisation. Various thematic sessions will be held to shed new light on current data: “Impacts of the shift to a sedentary/semi-sedentary lifestyle”; “Organising the house and the household”; “Private space/public space”; “Acquisition, production, transformation and use”; “Eating-Moving”; “Symbolic manifestations”;“The living and the dead”.

L’objet de ce colloque est d’analyser comment s’articulent pratiques diplomatiques et pratiques alimentaires quand la table devient une scène supplémentaire, et parfois principale, de civilités. Il ne s’agira pas de mettre en évidence chaque gastronomie nationale mais plutôt d’étudier le rôle que la table peut jouer lors des rencontres, négociations, achèvement de conférences et, de manière plus générale, dans les processus quotidiens d’échanges. Alors que le champ des études gastronomiques n’est plus en friche, l’analyse des protocoles de réception a fait l’objet de travaux moins nombreux mais particulièrement attentifs à la question de l’alimentation curiale. Il sera intéressant de comprendre la manière dont les cours européennes du Moyen Âge au XX^e siècle ont associé la table et la négociation.

L’évolution des modalités de la réception sera examinée

• lieux (palais, hôtels, place du village, navire en escale…) ; type de service et protocole ; arts de la table ; association de la musique et des spectacles ; prise de parole (discours et toasts) ; les spécialistes du cérémonial et du protocole ; le choix des cuisiniers et des brigades, leurs liens transnationaux ; la conception des codes d'honneur pour recevoir des hôtes de marque

Les menus feront l’objet d’une analyse

• l’ordre des mets ; la prise en compte des tabous alimentaires ; la durée des repas ; le choix des boissons ; la place du vin et la sélection des crus ; la symbolique des plats ; l’iconographie et le design des cartons de menus

Les comportements spécifiques liés à la table seront mis en évidence

• les manières de manger (mains ; recours à des ustensiles) ; les tabous alimentaires ; le contrôle de sécurité alimentaire (les goûteurs) ; l’intentionnalité destructrice (utilisation du vin pour délier les langues, empoisonnement) ; le poids de la religion dans l’approche des pratiques de table et l’usage de certains produits ; la sociabilité associée à la table (conversation mondaine, confidence, espionnage, amitié et liens affectifs ; les erreurs d’appréciation ; le mépris des convenances)

La porosité des cultures alimentaires peut servir de marqueur pour les diverses étapes de la mondialisation

• l’introduction de nouveaux produits (café, chocolat, thé) ; la découverte des cuisines étrangères

L’évolution de la présence et de la participation des femmes aux repas diplomatiques sera étudiée

• rôle et influence des souveraines organisatrices ; rôle des épouses, des courtisanes, des danseuses et des chanteuses

Le spectacle de la table

• public du repas, opinion publique et publicité. L’analyse de l’évolution de la mise en scène du repas diplomatique des tableaux de l’époque moderne aux photographies du G 8, en passant par les descriptions littéraires, les reportages dans les magazines, l’analyse des publicités, permettra de comprendre l’évolution des représentations liées à la place que tient la table dans la communication diplomatique

La place de la table dans la diplomatie économique et la diplomatie d'influence fera l’objet d’une attention particulière

• les fournisseurs des tables ; les exportations de produits alimentaires et de boissons ; l’influence des styles de réception

La traduction médiatique de ces moments pourra être envisagée

• scènes de repas dans les contextes diplomatiques filmés, séquences cinématographiques ; reportages radiophoniques ; littérature

Approches privilégiées

Les contributions privilégiées seront celles qui couvriront :

• Les nouvelles approches de l’histoire des pratiques diplomatiques
• Les nouvelles approches de l’histoire de l’alimentation

Αθήνα, Μουσείο Ισλαμικής Τέχνης, ένας έλληνας ζωγραφίζει την Ανατολή

Θεόδωρος Ράλλης. Με το βλέμμα στην Ανατολή11/12/2014 - 22/02/2015

Ο ζωγράφος Θεόδωρος Ράλλης, με καταγωγή από την Χίο, γεννήθηκε στην Κωνσταντινούπολη και έζησε το μεγαλύτερο διάστημα της ζωής του στη Γαλλία. Το καλλιτεχνικό του έργο, εμπνευσμένο από την Ελλάδα και τη Μέση Ανατολή, διαμορφωμένο στο πλαίσιο του ευρωπαϊκού ρεύματος του Οριενταλισμού και εκτελεσμένο σύμφωνα με την ακαδημαϊκή τεχνική της γαλλικής σχολής, συνέβαλε στη δημιουργία της νεότερης καλλιτεχνικής παράδοσης στην Ελλάδα.

Η έκθεση αποκαλύπτει το έργο του σημαντικού αυτού Έλληνα ζωγράφου μέσα από επιλεγμένους πίνακες, έγγραφα, επιστολές και φωτογραφίες. Παράλληλα, παρουσιάζει σχέδιά του για την εικονογράφηση βιβλίων, έργα του εμπνευσμένα από τη λογοτεχνία και την ποίηση, αποσπάσματα από το ημερολόγιό του από το Άγιο Όρος, καθώς και επιλογή από την αρθρογραφία του στον τύπο της εποχής.
Η έκθεση αναπτύσσεται σε τρεις ενότητες: την εισαγωγική με αρχειακό υλικό, την ενότητα «Πίστη στην Ανατολή» και την ενότητα «Το χαρέμι με το λουτρό», επιδιώκοντάς να εξερευνήσει το «βλέμμα» της Δύσης προς την «άλλη» Ανατολή, της οποίας η αναπαράσταση -όπως έχει μελετηθεί μέχρι σήμερα- εγείρει πολλά ερωτήματα και υπόκειται σε συνεχείς ανασκευές.

Την έκθεση θα συνοδεύει δίγλωσση ομότιτλη έκδοση, της οποίας τα κείμενα θα επιμεληθεί η Δρ Μίρκα Παλιούρα.

Κτηριακό συγκρότημα Κεραμεικού Το συγκρότημα, επί των οδών Αγίων Ασωμάτων 22 και Διπύλου 12, περιήλθε στο Μουσείο Μπενάκη από δωρεά του αείμνηστου Λάμπρου Ευταξία, ενόσω ήταν ακόμη εν ζωή. Ο μεγάλος αυτός δωρητής κατά το τελευταίο διάστημα της ζωής του διετέλεσε Επίτιμος Πρόεδρος της Διοικητικής Επιτροπής του Μουσείου.

This conference seeks to examine how the histories of Zionist settlement,
anti-colonial and nation-building struggles and 20th century warfare in the Middle
East region are being transformed in the current historical conjuncture. Of
particular importance in this context will be ideological and political alliances
that have emerged locally, regionally and globally around notions such as the ‘New
Antisemitism’, and ‘Islamophobia’ and how these relate to racialised discourses
against Jews and Muslims.

Global History calls attention to the importance of trans-regional and global
connections and highlights the importance of postcolonial approaches to history and

9) Interdisciplinary Workshop: “A Sea that Links and Binds: Cooperation, Coercion
and Compulsion across the Red Sea from the Eighteenth Century to the Present”

Papers are welcome on the entire greater Red Sea region, defined as encompassing
modern day states of Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Egypt, Israel, Jordan,
Saudi Arabia and Yemen. Papers will be drawn from the fields of History,

Studies, and will deliver a public lecture as part of the CMES Interdisciplinary
