 2. Conference: "The Mediterranean City and Its Rulers: A Comparison of Byzantium, Islam, and Western Christendom in the High Middle Ages”, Princeton, 26-27 April 2014
 There has been no in-depth comparison of how cities were ruled in the various lands encircling the Great Sea, despite the existence of a strong common Roman heritage, as well as evidence for extensive interaction through long-distance trade, pilgrimage, diplomacy, and warfare. This conference will begin to undertake such an analysis, highlighting similarities and differences in governmental institutions, civic identity, and revolutionary activity throughout the Mediterranean. The event is intended as a pilot establishing a network of scholars.

 5. Conference "Mediterranean Visions: Journeys, Itineraries and Cultural Migrations" and symposium "History, Literature and Culture in a Mediterranean Frame", Sorrento, Italy,13-15 June 2014

The conference will focus on the perceptions of the journey to/from/around the Mediterranean Sea, moving from Italian, European and extra-European perspectives (and with specific reference to the Americas), and concentrating on the theme of immigration/emigration to/from the Mediterranean Basin), the intercultural exchanges occurring between its shores, as well as new challenges (social and economic) facing the region from the globalized society and from the increasingly urgent democratic imperatives of the populations inhabiting it.

Responsibilities: teaching 2 credit hours on BA and MA level (language of instruction is French). The candidate will devise the students' supervision and the evaluation conforming to the syllabus.

16. Visiting Professor in Israel Studies, Department of History, University of Calgary, Canada

The position is offered for 6 months during the 2014-2015 Academic Year, either fall 2014 (July to December) or winter 2015 (January through June). Applicants from a variety of disciplines are invited to apply, but the successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in a field of specialization such as Sociology, Anthropology, Political Science, History, Literature, Film or Cultural Studies, International Relations, Public Affairs, or Communications Studies. Applicants must be engaging teachers who are fluent in both Hebrew and English.

The appointee will be expected to teach 2 courses on topics relating to modern Israel, and should also be prepared to give a public lecture in the Calgary area as well as one to the University of Calgary community.

19. German Turkish Masters Program in Social Sciences (GeT MA), Berlin and Ankara

20. Articles on  “Area Studies” for  Peer-reviewed Online Journal “Middle East – Topics & Arguments”

This issue will address both the historical evolution of area studies and related disciplines (in the case of the Middle East and North Africa: Islamic studies, Oriental philology, Middle East Studies, etc.) as well as contemporary developments on a conceptual as well as an empirical level.

We call for articles from a broad array of disciplines including political science, sociology anthropology, literature studies, cultural studies, media studies, linguistics, history and economics. We encourage articles that discuss current developments within area studies in a broader context of institutional frameworks, funding policies, and geo-political considerations.
