2. Workshop: “Political Humour / Satire in Arab Media“, University of Munich, 4-5
February 2016
The first part of the workshop will be dedicated to the discussion of theoretical
aspects of political humour, especially concerning its potential for political and
social change but also concerning different forms of humour in differing cultural
contexts. The second part consists of analysing and discussing recent developments
of Arab political humour, specifically an episode of Bassem Youssef’s news satire
El-Barnameg and various political cartoons, in order to assess their political and
social implications.

3. Conference: “China and the Middle East – Neoliberalism with Chinese
Characteristics and Political Transformations in the Middle East”, Qatar University,
Doha, 23-24 March 2016
China has become one of the largest economic and trade partners with Middle Eastern
states such as Iran, Turkey, Pakistan, Egypt, Israel. Therefore, we would like to

This panel will explore the functions and structures of the nodes and networks
operating within North Africa and the Middle East, as well as the networks. Papers
