Within the context of the research program “La Fabrique du Caire Moderne”, a pilot project about urban development, architecture, Euro-Mediterranean entanglements and global investment in Cairo in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries. Its main goal is to combine thorough archival research with historical topographic iconography, using digital tools (visualization, GIS and TEI-XML texts), in order to produce a global urban history of the Egyptian capital.

13.  14th TurkMiS Workshop: “Researching the Multiple Dimensions of Syrian Refugees’ Lives in Turkey”, Berlin, 24 June 2019

From the outbreak of the civil war in Syria in 2011 and the proliferation of DAESH in Iraq large numbers of displaced persons escaped to Turkey. Most of these were Syrians. Initially, they were granted a ‘temporary protection status’ though it has become increasingly obvious that the case has become a protracted refugee situation. This raises a number of questions ranging from the various dimensions of integration to peoples’ ambitions for their future.
