3. Academic Workshop: “Diasporas and Challenges to Statehood in the Middle East and
North Africa”, Warwick University, 28-29 September 2017

This workshop is part of the conference "Diasporas and Contested Sovereignty:
Lessons Learned about Transnational Diaspora Mobilizations in Europe. It seeks to
move on from initial consideration of diasporas as simply conflict or peace actors.
It will look into broader conflict and post-conflict dynamics, where a variety of
domestic and international actors influence political processes, and endorse or
challenge weak states, their governance or international recognition.

What is the epistemology that justifies or necessitates recourse to the Ḥadīṯ? Why
must the origin of human knowledge be based in the Prophet’s sayings? Can human
reason have access to certain truths without the help of a prophetic revelation?

International Congress on Medieval Studies, Western Michigan University, Kalamazoo

This panel welcomes papers that explore various aspects of the genesis, impact, and
legacy of medieval Arabic prose written in Europe. Of particular interest are
approaches that consider Arabic and European prose works--such as maqāmāt,
historical chronicles, didactic collections, or frame-tale narratives--in the larger
context of dialogue across faiths, linguistic traditions, and geopolitical
boundaries.

Candidates for this two years position are expected to have conducted their doctoral
research in one of the regions covered by the project (The Gulf, Turkey,
South-Asia), to be proficient of one of its languages (Turkish, Arabic, Malay), and
have an important knowledge of the fieldwork.

13. Associate Director of the Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) in Beirut

The Associate Director is responsible for planning, developing and implementing the
ACSS strategic plan (http://www.theacss.org/). A PhD in a Social Science discipline,
at least 10 years management experience in similar activities, and perfect knowledge
of spoken and written Arabic and English is required.

Dynamics in the MENA Region" 
 
At least one of the main researchers should be a national of an Arab country, Iran
and Turkey. Cross-country collaborations within MENA are encouraged. Researchers
from disciplines other than economics may apply.

17. Articles on "Forgiveness" for "Journal of Mediterranean Knowledge"

The expected contributions will explore the conceptual dimension of the concept of
forgiveness and its sources in the religious beliefs, with particular attention to
the three monotheisms: Judaism, Christianism and Islam. Secondly, the use of the
concept of forgiveness must be restored in the human and social sciences,
considering the richness of its application in various disciplinary and cultural
contexts.
