1. International Symposium: "Civilization, Cities and Architecture",  Istanbul,
12-14 April 2016

The symposium aims to revisit the heritage of Turkish-Muslim, along with Roman,
Byzantine, Greek, Chinese and other civilizations in the field of urban planning and
architecture and to discuss whether the needs of the modern way of life and
traditional architecture are compatible with each other, how they can complement
each other, and whether the historical heritage can in some way or other brought to
bear on modern city planning. Sponsored by the Turkish Historical Society

3. International Symposium: "Persianate Cultures of Documentation (15th – 20th
Centuries)", Institute of Iranian Studies, Vienna, 23-24 June 2016
 
The conveners J. Pickett and P. Sartori propose to reflect on the meanings of
documentation across a larger historical area of the Muslim world, which is termed
“the Persianate”. This symposium brings together scholars who work on material
either in Persian or in languages directly influenced by Persian such as Urdu,
Chaghatay, Marathi, Ottoman, Tatar, and Uyghur across the early-modern and modern
period.

7. In memory of Thomas Philipp 
  
Thomas Philipp died on June 11, 2015 in Erlangen, Germany, of cancer, only 74 years
of age. He had just come back from Boston MA, his second home and was full of plans
for the summer. See
