The seminar deals with the contemporary dynamics of transnational religious fields
across the world by addressing the shifting configurations between new modes of
transnational religious practices on the one hand and evolving forms of
nation-building and national domestication of religious communities in a time of
growing nationalism and exclusion.

4. International Conference: "Libya in Transition. Elites, Civil Society,

The Conference aims to discuss the process of Libyan transition from comparative

Annemarie Schimmel Kolleg/University on Bonn, 24-26 February 2016

How did philosophy interact epistemologically with its neighbouring disciplines,
e.g. logic, rational sciences, historiography, fiqh, kalam, tasawwuf, Qur’anic
exegesis and hadith? How was philosophical knowledge transmitted between the Islamic
East and the Islamic West? What role did the political authorities play in
sustaining the development of Islamic philosophy in different regions of the
Islamicate world?

10. Five Postdoctoral Fellowships for the Research Program "Europe in the Middle
East - The Middle East in Europe (EUME)", Berlin 

The program supports historical-critical philology, rigorous engagement with the
literatures of the Middle East and their histories, the social history of cities and
the study of Middle Eastern political and philosophical thought as central fields of
research. The fellowships are intended primarily for scholars of art history,
history, literature, philology, political philosophy, political science, religion
and sociology who want to carry out their research projects in connection with the
Berlin program during 1 October 2015 until 31 July 2016.

11. Fellowships for Doctoral Students/Postdoctoral Scholars, Max Weber Center for
Advanced Cultural and Social Studie, University of Erfurt (Max-Weber-Kolleg) 

The fellowships are invited for research projects in the fields of Sociology,
Religious Studies, History, Philosophy, Economics, Law, Political Sciences or
Theology within the framework of the Research Group "Ordering Dynamics". The
fellowships start either on 1 September or on 1 October 2015 and are granted for 3
to 12 months. 

Requirements: Excellent academic degree, relevant PhD Thesis or PhD Thesis project,
outstanding Academic Record, Knowledge of German (at least reading skills), English
and other relevant languages.

of Europe. The European Union and the Diffusion of Ideas”, Berlin

comparative regionalism. We are especially interested in the topic "Regional

The German non-profit organization is striving to promote democracy, civil society,
equality, and environmental justice is offering this position, which is based in
Tunis and will cooperate with civil society organizations in Tunisia and Egypt.

Profile: Advanced university degree in social or political sciences or related
fields; five years of relevant work experience and proven familiarity with
developments in North Africa/ or the MENA region, program planning, and project
implementation in the civil society sector in Tunisia, Egypt, or the MENA region;
fluency in written and spoken English and Arabic required. Knowledge of French
and/or German is an asset.

14. Post-doctoral Research Fellow in Islamic Studies for "Foundations in Medieval
Societies. Cross-cultural Comparisons", Department of History, Humboldt University

This is a fixed-term position limited to the project period 1 May 2015 until 31 May
2017. Job description: Scientific services in research writing articles for the
field of Islamic Studies to be published in the intercultural and comparative
encyclopedia of foundations in medieval societies. Requirement: An excellent
doctoral degree in the field of Islamic or Middle Eastern Studies, Arabic, Iranian
or Turkish Studies;  excellent command of languages relevant to the historical
sources and good command of English - at least reading knowledge of German;

This two-year study program provides students with high-level, professional
competences in the field of Mediterranean mediation, cooperation and integration, as
well as with the methodological tools to pursue research oriented activities. MIM
