Egypt, Jordan, Libya, Tunisia and Germany“, Freie Universität Berlin, 22-23 April
2015 

The conference is organized by the Center for Middle Eastern and North African
Politics (Freie Universität Berlin) and the EuroMed program, Cairo University. This
is the closing conference of the DAAD funded project „Challenges and Transformations
in the Wake of the Arab Spring: Change and Persistence“ addresses the current
political and social transformations in the Arab World and their implications for
higher education and social sciences in the region. The conference brings together
researchers from Egypt, Jordan, Lebanon, Tunisia, Libya and Germany from different
disciplinary backgrounds (political sciences, economy, sociology, law).

18. Junior Research Fellow in Comparative Religion, Georgetown University School of
Foreign Service in Qatar (SFSQ), Doha

The fellow will participate in first cross-country comparison of interfaith
initiatives in Qatar, UK and India to determine how best to assess their
effectiveness in improving interfaith relations. The position will start in August
2015.  The fellow will play a critical role in conducting field research in Delhi
and Doha, maintaining communication between the UK and Qatar, and gathering
background information. Applicants should have a Ph.D. or be a candidate for a Ph.D.
in a relevant subject area (Social Sciences or Humanities with knowledge of
comparative religions) and will preferably have conversational Arabic skills and
experience living in the Middle East, South Asia or both.

Responsibility to Protect to Responsibility to Assist: Conflict, Reconstruction and

As part of the DAAD Program “Higher Education Dialogue with the Muslim World”, the
German-Arab Program aims at fostering inter-cultural dialogue via joint supervision
of PhD candidates (application deadline April 30, 2015), research and networking.
The program is coordinated by the Institute of Development Research and Development
Policy (IEE), RUB. Partners of the project include the University of Jordan, Amman,
the Lebanese-American University, Beirut, and the Carnegie Middle East Center,
Beirut, in addition to the Institute for International Law of Peace and Armed

The purpose of this summer school is to bring together and train a group of Ph.D.
students in theoretical, empirical and research-strategic issues on the subject
