CONFERENCES

1. Congress of the Forum of Arab and International Relations on "German-Arabic
Relations", Doha, Qatar, 14-15 January 2015

At this congress, expert speakers from Germany and the Arab World will deliver
lectures on the various aspects of the German-Arab relations and will look at
society in Germany itself which now consists of over five million members of Muslim
minority and show their cultural achievements, but also how the problems they are
confronted with have an impact on Germany's relations with the countries of origin
of Islam.

3. International Conference: "Intertwined Elements in Arabic Literature: Classical,
Modern and Popular", Tel Aviv University, 19-20 May 2015

The conference will deal with the variety of narrative and linguistic elements of
Arabic literature in its evolution from classical to contemporary forms. The
conference will also focus on the connection between literature and social
structures.

4. First Biennial Nangeroni Meeting, “Early Islam: The Sectarian Milieu of Late
Antiquity?”, Milan, 15-19 June 2015

The meeting is organised by the "Early Islamic Studies Seminar: International
Scholarship on the Qur’ān and Islamic Origins" and aims at re-examining afresh
formative Islam in its the late-antique context.

6. University Lectureship in the Sociology of Religion, Leiden University 

We welcome applications by scholars with a broad view of the study of religion,
including theories, methods, and research history, and with the ability to work from
interdisciplinary and comparative perspectives. Appointment will be fixed-term from
August 2015 through July 2017, with the possibility of extensions of up to four
years, and of a permanent position thereafter. Candidates from outside the
Netherlands may be eligible for a substantial tax break.

9. Post-doctoral Fellowship in Lebanese Diaspora Studies, North Carolina State
University, Raleigh, NC

Applicants whose scholarly work address any aspect of Lebanese Diasporas, and
represent any discipline in the humanities or social sciences are encouraged to
apply. Fellow will need to be in residence from August 1, 2015 through May 31,
2016.

10. Sultan Visiting Scholar Program at UC Berkeley, California

The Sultan Visiting Scholar engages in research related to the theme of Arab
Studies, and will deliver a public lecture as part of the CMES Interdisciplinary
Lecture Series. S/he is hosted by the CMES. The fellowship is available for one
semester and provides a stipend of $18,000. Applications are accepted from scholars
who have received a Ph.D. within the last three and have not yet held a tenure-track
position. Visiting Scholars may hold doctorates from institutions other than UC
Berkeley.

11. Two-year Mellon Visiting Assistant Professorship in Comparative Border Studies,
University of California

Applicants should be specialists in research on one or more border zones, such as
Israel-Palestine, Afghanistan-Pakistan etc., focusing on three major themes: 1)
human rights, citizenship and racialized belonging; 2) mobility, militarization and
containment; 3) protest cultures and transnational solidarities.

for Masters Degrees at UK Universities 

Scholarships are available for full-time taught Masters degrees at the University of
St Andrews, University of East Anglia, Imperial College London Business School and
the University Edinburgh. Scholarships include tuition fees and a stipend to cover
accommodation and living costs.

13. Call for Articles on "Is Anthropology of Middle East the Same as Other
Anthropologies?" for Special Issue of the  Journal "Anthropology of the Middle
East".

In addition to other themes, the articles should consider what kind of study should
be conducted to raise the Middle East to the rank it deserves within the scope of
