2.    Zoom Webinar: “The Threat of Israeli Annexation: Regional and International Implications,” Arab Center Washington and Institute for Palestine Studies, 3 June 2020

The webinar will discuss the implications of the Israeli plan to annex vast areas of Palestinian land and extend Israeli sovereignty over illegal settlements in the West Bank. The discussion will also explore the implications of the recent announcement by Palestinian Authority (PA) President Mahmoud Abbas that the PA will end all agreements and understandings signed with Israel and the United States.

We welcome proposals dealing with the role of borders and borderlands in shaping global narratives of connectivity across time and place.

17.  Symposium: "Ottoman Ego-Documents", Istanbul Medeniyet University, 7-9 April 2021

The aim is not to reveal the autobiographical elements existing in any text or the data about the author’s self by using the information found, say, in a marginal note; but to focus on the distinct works which can be directly evaluated within the scope of self-narratives. A close examination can reveal autobiographical elements even in Ottoman chronicler’s accounts. Moreover, traveler’s accounts can also be fitted in the category of self-narrative according to some historians.

In this period, the Eastern Mediterranean witnessed greater linguistic transformations that affected the entire regions and cultures, including their popular and elite levels. The purpose of the sessions is to examine whether this situation led to consolidating associative links between certain languages and particular types, methods, and styles of writing regarded as their “proper” or “preferred” mediums; and to what extent modern scholars can detect these links today, studying epigraphy, manuscripts, and writing systems.
