and their legacies on the international system by focusing on the global challenges
today and defining ways to address them primarily from a theoretical perspective. By

4. Conference: “Transnational Religious Movements, Dialogue and Economic
Development: The Hizmet Movement in Comparative Perspective”, University of Turin,
10-11 December 2015
 
This conference aims at including papers addressing the Hizmet movement in its
transnational perspective: either by analysing its activities, development and
institutionalisation in different countries, or by comparing it to other
dialogue-oriented religious movements. Different disciplinary perspectives, from
political science to sociology, anthropology and law, as well as different
methodological perspectives, are welcomed.

5. Conference: “From Christianisations and Islamisations to
(Hetero)Europeanisations: Transformations of Cultural-Historical Heritage on the
European Margins”, Bulgarian Academy of Sciences, Ca'Foscari University of Venice &
INALCO, Sofia, 31 March - 2 April 2016
 
We aim to gather insights for drafting typologies and chronologies of: 1) the
Europeanisation of a number of national collective identities from the European
margins; 2) phenomena that can be considered re-active towards Europeanisation; 3)
contacts and mutual (non)interest and preconceptions between cultures from the
margins. 
A limited number of successful applicants shall be able to benefit from travel
grants.

7. Assistant Professor in Political Science, Santa Clara University 
 
The Department of Political Science invites applications for a tenure-track position
specializing in Comparative Politics to begin Fall 2016. Regional interest includes
China, South Asia, and Latin America. Themes of interest include participation,
human rights, politics, religion and development, and sustainable development.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in Political Science and university-level teaching
experience. Demonstrated success in research and publishing peer-reviewed works is
necessary to achieve tenure.

8. Studying Arabic in Oman at A’Sharqiyah University, Ibra
 
We offer Standard Arabic, Colloquial Omani Arabic and Media Arabic. The teaching
staff is Omani and highly trained to teach non-native speakers and in intercultural
communication to ease the students into Omani culture. The Fall Semester starts on
Sep 5th and ends on Dec 17th and our 4-week intensive winter program starts on Jan
5th and ends on Jan 28th.

11. Summer Scholarships for Study Trip in Turkey, 17-25 August 2015
 
The Ministry of Culture and Tourism of the Republic of Turkey will offer a study
trip for successful and motivated graduate students (MA, MPhil, PhD, etc.)
interested in Ottoman and Turkish studies. The aim of the project is to provide
wide-ranging first hand information on Turkey.
 
Applicants must be graduate students in Turcology, History, Political Science,
International Relations, Sociology, Journalism, Law or Public Administration. The
program is open to students from: Argentina, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil,
Bulgaria, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Hungary, Republic of
Ireland, Italy, Lithuania, Netherlands, New Zealand, Norway, Poland, Romania,
Russian Federation, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, UK, USA. All travel and
accommodation expenses of the study trip will be covered by the Turkish Ministry of
Culture and Tourism.

12. 29 Research Junior Scholar Fellowships on "InterAsian Contexts and Connections" 
 
These fellowships help junior scholars (one to five years out of the PhD) complete
first books or undertake second projects. The intellectual thrust of the project is
the reconceptualization of Asia as an interlinked historical and geographic
formation stretching from West Asia through Eurasia, Central Asia, and South Asia to
Southeast Asia and East Asia. Proposals supported by the fellowship examine
processes that connect places and peoples (such as migration, media, and resource
flows) as well as those that reconfigure local and translocal contexts (such as
shifting borders, urbanization, and social movements)..

the Transfer of Knowledge”
 
The recently created journal is focusing on various areas of knowledge transfer from
Late Antiquity to the Early Modern period, covering the Middle East and the
Mediterranean basin, and paying special attention to philological, philosophical,
scientific, cultural and religious fields of research. Mediterranea publishes
original papers. All submissions from Arts and Humanities, Cultural Heritage, Social
Sciences and Experimental Sciences are welcome.

15. Articles on "Gender, Citizenship, and Immigration: A Comparative Perspective on
the Mediterranean” for a special issue of “Journal of Levantine Studies”
 
We welcome submissions offering insights on the new developments in the triad of
citizenship, gender, and immigration, particularly manuscripts dealing with
structural economic problems, political instability after the “Arab Spring,” and
ongoing conflicts in specific countries. We specifically welcome contributions from
scholars and social activists that analyze the inclusionary and exclusionary
experiences of women, children, and members of LGBTI communities, labor and
political migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers or return migrants.
