3. Colloquium:  “Images, Youth and Society in the Arab World and Mediterranean",
Marseille, 14-15 January 2016 

The Research Group on Visual Arts of the Muslim World of the Maghreb and Middle East
is organizing this  colloquium. Ce colloque se propose d’envisager les images
narratives contemporaines produites dans le monde arabe et méditerranéen comme une
expression de soi et comme un langage en soi. Comment raconte-t-on l’histoire à ceux
qui ne savent pas, ou pas encore, lire les mots ?

4. Visiting Research Fellowships 2016 at "Berlin Graduate School Muslim Cultures and
Societies" or "Zentrum Moderner Orient", Berlin
 
The call is open for senior researchers and recent postdocs in the humanities and
the social sciences. They are invited to apply for a monthly stipend (2500 EUR,
covering all expenses including travel and accommodation), and a period of stay that
should normally last up to three months.

5. Sir William Luce Fellowship, Durham University 
 
The Fellowship is awarded annually to a scholar at post-doctoral level, diplomat,
politician, or business executive, working on those parts of the Middle East to
which Sir William Luce devoted his working life (Iran, the Gulf states, South Arabia
and Sudan), and is hosted by Durham University during Easter term (25 April - 24
June 2016). This year the Fund may give preference to proposals relating to Yemen.

6. Assistant Professor of Early Modern Ottoman History, Department of History,
Boğaziçi University, Istanbul
 
Preference will be given to candidates with a research focus on gender studies,
legal or socio-economic history and with a strong interest in translocal/global
perspectives.  Candidates who can teach a broader range of courses on Iranian,
Middle Eastern or Mediterranean history are encouraged to apply. Skills in teaching
quantitative and/or digital history methods are a plus. Applicants must have a Ph.D.
and some teaching experience by the time of application.

7. Definite Term Faculty Appointment in Studies in Islam and Arabic Language,
University of Waterloo, Canada
 
We are seeking candidates who have earned their Ph.D. in Arabic language,
linguistics, or a related area. Experience teaching Modern Standard Arabic at the
University level, familiarity with proficiency based language teaching and testing,
native or near native command of Arabic, and ability to teach at all levels of
Arabic is required. Familiarity with use of technology in language teaching is
desirable. Excellent written and spoken English is required.

of ‘Djihadism’?: Values, Societal Change, and Collective Actions” for the Journal
“The Revista de Estudios Internacionales Mediterráneos (REIM)” 
 
This is a free open access Journal online; referee process; indexed: it publishes in
English, French and Spanish. The issue will address the logic underlying certain
values and social and political commitments of young people, without forgetting
strategies of disaffiliation or the bifurcation towards more violent methods of
promoting causes.

13. The British Association for Islamic Studies (BRAIS)-De Gruyter Prize in the
Study of Islam and the Muslim World

This international prize will be awarded annually to the best doctoral thesis or
unpublished first monograph based on a doctoral thesis. English-language submissions
on any aspect of the academic study of Islam and the Muslim world, past and present,
including Muslim-minority societies are accepted.
