This conference will explore the development and contemporary practice of the study
of Shi'ism from both insider and outsider perspectives. It is particularly aimed at

2. Symposium: "Codicology and Palaeography of Early Qur'an Manuscripts", Islamic
Manuscript Association, Cambridge, 14 May 2015

With nine presentations ranging from the latest palaeographic methods to new
techniques of parchment analysis, and contributors from across Europe, it will
present the latest research on the palaeography and codicology of Qur'an manuscripts
dating from the seventh to early eleventh centuries CE.

3. Conference: "Migrants in the City: New Dynamics of Migration in Urban Settings",
University of Sheffield, 12-13 October 2015

The international conference will provide a forum for the examination of key
questions related to contemporary international migration in the context of urban
development, residential segregation and diversity. Contributions are welcomed that
reflect on the causes and consequences of all forms of international migration.

4. International Workshop: "Islamic Peace Ethics: Legitimate and Illegitimate
Violence in Contemporary Islamic Thought", Hamburg, 16-17 October 2015  
 
This workshop is organized in the frame of an ongoing research project about
"Islamic peace ethics" in ithf (Institut für Theologie und Frieden). The main goal
of the workshop is to discuss the normative grounds of violence in contemporary
Islamic thought with focus on the theoretical and methodological challenges of the
topic. Travel and accommodation funds are available for paper presenters. The
priority will be given to postdoc researchers or PhD students in an advanced phase.

The position has a special emphasis on Social Anthropology, Social or Political
Sciences. Candidates are required to have a habilitation thesis or equivalent

9. Educational Consultant (Part-Time) for Pilot Project "Towards A New Generation of
Social Scientists in the Arab Region", Lebanon 

The Arab Council for the Social Sciences (ACSS) is conducting a pilot program
targeting high school students and undergraduates, to introduce them to the social
sciences and to educate them about these fields and potential career options. The
purpose of this consultancy is to plan, conduct, and evaluate the pilot phase of the
project in four countries and make recommendations for adjustments. 

Qualification: PhD or MA in the Social Sciences (including Education) plus 3-5 years
experience in a relevant position; excellent written and spoken Arabic and English.

15. Open Online Course: "Deciphering Secrets: Unlocking the Manuscripts of Medieval
Spain", Mediterranean Seminar, University of Colorado, 17 August - 25 September 2015

In this course students will explore the history of Jews, Christians, and Muslims in
late medieval, fifteenth century Spain. Students will learn about the positive and
negative elements of inter-religious co-existence in Plasencia, Spain, and
contribute to an international scholarly effort by helping transcribe manuscripts.

16. Funding to Develop Applications for a Marie Curie European Fellowship,
University of Aberdeen 

The Centre for Citizenship, Civil Society and Rule of Law (CISRUL) invites
researchers of any nationality who identify closely with our research agenda, and
who hold a PhD and significant post-doctoral experience, to spend up to a week at
CISRUL preparing an application for the Fellowship, which would allow them to spend
1-2 years with us at Aberdeen. CISRUL will fund travel, board & lodging for the most
