This symposium asks how we might go beyond fixed notions of power, history and the
body in order to probe violence in the context of re-generation and
hyper-capitalism. A selection of papers will be published in a high-profile edited
collection of articles which explore the gains which come from applying theoretical
and new conceptual approaches to the Gulf.

3. 15th International Migration Conference: "Migration und Gender/Migration and
Gender", CDMH, Dudelange/Luxemburg, 18 - 20 June 2015

The relations between migration and gender will be analyzed and discussed from an
interdisciplinary and international perspective in this conference. Proposals can be
submitted on the following theoretical and empirical perspectives: 1. Gender
relations in the context of migration; 2. Approaches in research on gender and
migration; 3. Media and public representations of gender and migration; 4.
Sexuality-body identity in the context of migration; 5. Flight migration and Gender;
6. Migration and gender in cultures of memory: exhibitions, museums and public
space.

4. Workshop: "Turkey and Britain 1914-1952: from Enemies to Allies",  British
Institute at Ankara, 1 July 2015

This workshop aims to create an active network of scholars from Turkey, the UK and
other nationalities. The participants should draw on and represent their own
historiographical traditions and access a full range of archival and other written
source material from the UK, Turkey and elsewhere.

5. 11th Biennial Conference of the Association for the Study of Travel in Egypt and
the Near East (ASTENE), University of Exeter,  17-20 July 2015 

Contributions welcome that cover a wide range of disciplines and interests. It is
envisaged the conference will cover many fascinating themes - including, but not
limited to: ASTENE travellers in both directions: visitors from the Middle East in
Europe (and America) and visitors from the West in the East; travels in tandem, or
group travels that were not a package tour; something to write home about - what
travellers chose to write about and how they related their adventures to their
friends and family; etc.

This conference is connected with the "Fourth PhD Conference on International
Development" which is hosted by the Institute of Development Studies and Development
Management (IEE), RUB. It offers PhD students with various academic backgrounds the

8. Prince Alwaleed Bin Talal Professorship in Contemporary Islamic Religion and
Society in Southeast Asia at Harvard Divinity School

We seek a scholar whose work engages the social, intellectual, political, artistic,
economic, or any other aspect of contemporary Islamic life with specialization in
Southeast Asia. The candidate should demonstrate a deep understanding of the
historical, social, and cultural contexts of Islamic institutions, movements, and
ideas in Southeast Asia with emphasis on the 18th-century to the present.

9. Two Year Post-Doctoral Research Fellowship in Religious Studies, Center for
Religious Studies at Central European University, Budapest

The fellowship will commence September 2015, or as soon as possible thereafter.

10. Teaching and Research Positions at the Emirates Diplomatic Academy (EDA), Abu
Dhabi 
  
In June 2015, the EDA will open its doors. The Academy is tasked with developing and
upgrading the skills of current and future UAE diplomats and with developing a
regional center of thought leadership on international affairs. The Academy is
currently hiring teaching faculty (all levels) and senior researchers. The EDA is
looking for outstanding candidates with a PhD in international relations, political
science, international business or another relevant field, with substantial
practitioner experience related to diplomacy. Affinity with the Gulf region and

11. Post-Docs,  PhDs and Visiting PhD's Fellowships Related to "Mobility, Empire and
Cross-Cultural Contacts in Mongol Eurasia", Hebrew University of Jerusalem 

The fellowships of this European Research Council (ERC)  project  are beginning in
2015-16 for outstanding candidates  fluent in Chinese, Arabic and Persian (at least
one of the above) and with a sound knowledge of the history of the Mongol Empire.
The successful candidates will s will take part in a team work, which creates a
prosopographical database of people active under Mongol rule, and can use the 
accumulated data for their own research.

12. Post Doctoral Scholarships on Science, Ethics, and Democracy, Edmond J. Safra
Center for Ethics, Tel Aviv University 

The Center offers grants to outstanding researchers who study the interplay between
scientific and technological developments, politics, and ethics. The fellowship is
open to researchers from all disciplines and fields, including humanities, cyber and
computer sciences, social sciences, law, medicine and bioethics. Candidates must
have a PhD from a recognized institution in Israel or abroad. Candidates with
permanent positions at universities are not eligible. Grant Amount: $28,000.

The issue is edited by Alex Novikoff (Fordham University) and Brian Catlos
(University of Colorado Boulder/University of California Santa Cruz). Submissions
should deal with some aspect of inter-communal or intra-communal debate among
Christians, Muslims, or Jews and engage with the Mediterranean as a category of
analysis, preferably between 600 CE and 1500 CE.
